What is soaking and shaking?

soaking and shaking is/are a slang term commonly associated with a method used to manipulate Mormon religious rules prohibiting premarital sex. The practice allegedly involves a couple engaging in sexual penetration without any movement, under the notion that it does not constitute ‘sex’ due to the lack of activity. Essentially, “soaking” refers to inserting the penis into the vagina and remaining still, while “shaking” is a rumored addition where a third party shakes the bed to create movement without the couple actively engaging in thrusting. It’s important to note that the practice is not officially recognized or condoned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and that its actual prevalence among Mormon youth is unclear and may be more of an urban myth or a joke than a widespread practice.
